I spent the first half of this week in Lane Gibson's Recording Studio in Charlotte, VT, laying down guitar, bass and vocal tracks for my sister's upcoming 5 song demo. I'll be back there next week for mixing. It's been an awesome experience working in such a professional environment, and hearing my sister's music come to a whole new level of production. I also did some filming for a promo video I'll be making for her.

Kelly shot an engagement session for a couple whose wedding she'll also be photographing later this year (see the photos here). I tagged along to grab some footage for an "About Us" video I'll be putting on 822weddings.com, however I wound up shooting such beautiful footage, I'm definitely going to throw a movie together for the couple. I visited my father in his studio in Conneautville, Pennsylvania & shot some video interviews for his website. He's doing some excellent new paintings & it was really stimulating revisiting his works origin, inspiration, technique & so on. He's typically a very humble person, so getting him to talk about his paintings in any capacity is a bit challenging, but entirely rewarding. I'll put up some stills during the editing process, & of course the final videos when they're complete. You can see some of his new work here.

Fellow painters/illustrators/drafstmen etc - My dad, C. Michael Dudash, is offering portfolio critiques. He's probably the best painter/draftsmen I've ever know personally. Getting your work critiqued, especially by someone of his caliber, is invaluable. I can say first-hand his advice is above & beyond what many professional teachers have told me when it comes to the craft of painting, & is well worth every penny. I try to keep this blog art-oriented in some way. But I had to pass this along. The eject switch broke on my Sony DSR-PD170, so I began the search for the part number in order to get a new one. I came across www.scribd.com, where I found a full service manual for the camera available to download in .pdf form (as long as you signup - it's free). The manual had breakout diagrams, part numbers, everything. I ordered the part, and after some open heart surgery according to the service manual, the camera is like new. LONG STORY SHORT, www.scribd.com is awesome, and you can find nearly any kind of document on there imaginable. Check it out!

"What Was"

Info: On a walk yesterday Kelly & I found an old cement "cistern" on a hillside, a coffin sized open-topped rectangular box, containing all sorts of burnpile scraps of various materials. At the same time & place, there was an ethereal yellow color in the winter sky, seen looking down from the hillside through a break in the trees & mountains by our home. This piece of wood is from the scraps, & the image is inspired by the scene we saw. (Nothing revolutionary, but I REALLY enjoy this relationship between the origins of the physical object & the illusionary image represented thereon. Not only does the original condition of the object tell about it's environment, but the painted image reflects part of it's history also, mirror-like. The scene is what we & the wood saw. Also, working with found objects is rad.)

I had some frames laying around; what's a frame without a painting? These are quick landscapes for some loved ones (acrylic, 2" x 5.25" / 4.25" x 4.25"); Kelly & I also made some lavender pillows (heat em up & put em on your eyes/face for a most relaxing evening). They smell incredible.

I helped Paul (Vanguard Productions) & Pierce (PieMan Productions) shoot a documentary at Harwood today; went well. I also spent all day yesterday editing a rough cut for a promo video for PBM Nutritionals, similar to one I did last year. Some of it might find it's way into a new reel.

Tomorrow (Sat-Wed) I'm flying out to San Diego CA to film some interviews for FP. Hopefully I'll have opportunities to shoot around some new turf.

I started on a video piece for Juniper's Fare, documenting the unique story behind the restaurant. Kelly & I are also going to be doing some design/marketing for Juniper's. I'm also getting ready for a trip to Kenya, Africa in December (4th-14th), where I'll be documenting the opening of health clinics sponsored by Everyone's Child.

EVERYONE'S CHILD - officially completed

Since last fall I have been working on a documentary about the Everyone's Child program that is sponsored by my church community. The program primarily does two things; builds schools, & raises provisions for orphans, all in Kenya, Africa. I've personally gone to Kenya and witnessed the immense impact Love has had on countless lives. In reality, a video documentary does very little justice to what has, and is continuing to take place in Kenya. After many months of work and help from my brothers and sisters, we've completed the documentary. Additionally, I designed the DVD packaging and have produced a number of DVDs for distribution.

After many re-designs, Kelly & I finally finished our wedding invitations & are mailing the last of them to our friends & family. The invitations are printed on vellum, sewn over repros of old botanical prints, & are packaged with an RSVP, & a dried/pressed flower. RSVP front process drying & pressing flowers All our RSVPs are done online, via a page I made.

Late last night I finished the altar piece. Pat is putting on some coats of shellac and will fasten it to the rest of the altar. I'm very happy with the outcome. click for a closer look I really liked the image so I played with it - here's a variation I really dig.

Wheat & Grapes Altar Ornamentation

I'm working up a design for an ornamental painting that will go on Gordy's altar; wheat and grapes (the Body and the Blood). The altar is made of oak by my brother in law Pat (Kingdom Builders) and the ornamentation is going on a crosspiece that will be suspended underneath. Gordy and Elizabeth are moving this weekend, and it needs to be done by friday at the latest (with a varnish of some sort), so it's very last minute; if the rain holds, it'll give me a reason to stay inside and work on it all day Wednesday. I love them both dearly, and I feel very privileged to be doing this.

So much editing. The Everyone's Child videos are so close to being complete. For all intensive purposes, the editing is finished; I just need to deal with music permissions, and get some seals of approval. They'll be up soon. Kelly is soon getting a huge loom. There will be lots to see (& wear!). Here she is on a smaller one for now. Also, check out this textile dude out of San Francisco, Travis Meinolf - his weavings are are beautiful, & he seems totally far out.

Here's a hay circle Kelly & I made on Mt. Tam last month during our time spent in California. It was absolutely one of the most beautiful places we've ever walked, pressed right up to the sea & sky. The time & landscape were perfect for such a mark. It's a "ring" of sorts. She said yes. I'm still figuring out the best way to embed my videos; let me know if you have problems (slow loading page).

On monday, Kelly & I started a 5-class afterschool Art program at our community's school, Precious Moments School. Sixteen kids signed up, & on our first day we focused on drawing. The following weeks we'll do some painting, sculpture, textiles, & photo/video. Kids love art; it just needs to be brought to them.
